The key focus for the Retail Risk Security officer will be as follows.
  • Supporting the store teams with personal safety by dealing with conflict and abusive scenarios safely, quickly and effectively.
  • To identify and disrupt ORC gangs.
  • To support the store in reducing their stock loss.
The Retail Risk Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the store’s assets, employees, and customers by preventing and reducing losses through effective security measures and proactive monitoring.
This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent observational skills, and the ability to take immediate action when necessary. The Retail Risk Officer will work closely with the store management team to enforce policies, investigate incidents, and implement strategies to minimise loss
  • You will have a visible presence within the store and be confident and lead in their role. You must be polite and engage with customers on any basic customer queries. Handle difficult situations or conflicts with customers effectively and diplomatically.
  • You will command respect from store management and team and become the resident loss prevention expert in store.
  • You will promote a culture of security awareness culture within the store and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • You will have a minimum of 2 years working in loss prevention environment
  • You will look professional, uniform must be of a high standard, and you must wear your body-worn camera whilst on duty.
  • You will deal with conflict and abusive incidents in a controlled and calm manner and de-escalate potentially volatile situations and resolve the situation safely, quickly and effectively.
  • You will maintain surveillance of suspicious customers discreetly from a distance, ensure all identified issues are communicated to management.
  • You will have a high level of expertise in identifying all types of suspicious behavior and be able to communicate this quickly and effectively to store teams in a confident and professional manner
  • You will have excellent communication skills with store management, shopping centers and park security teams, along with contacts within the local Police service
  • You will be a key player in liaising with other retailers to gather intel in local area and share this with the store management, attend all partnership meetings sharing recent intelligence from River Island
  • You will be confident to provide evidence to Police where necessary and be competent in statement writing.
  • You will be required to have a weekly update with RRBPs on a Friday. You must have completed your Retail Risk update and have it ready to discuss all findings from the week.
  • You must be professional when always using all radio equipment, be clear and concise
  • You will be able to confidently deliver Prevention and Recovery Statements in various scenarios, i.e. suspicious behavior, bulk thefts, etc.
  • During a theft/potentially aggressive situation, you will contact store management immediately, deal with the incident in the moment in accordance with the necessary Retail Risk policy. Deal with the situation confidently and calmly, giving store team confidence that you are in full control of the situation.
  • You will have detailed knowledge of RI store and Red Routes. Advise on changes to Red Routes where necessary and follow up on non-compliance. Highlight to RRBP if store team are not adhering to Red Route process. Lead by example, review Red Routes daily.
  • You will confidently deliver high quality training to store teams on Retail Risk policies and identifying and reporting suspicious behavior
  • You will support with internal theft indicators and flag to the RRBP and RRIBP

Retail Risk Security Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid Front Line SIA License
  • Must have a First Aid Certificate
  • Must have a minimum of 5 year checkable employment history (or back to leaving education)
  • Must have a ACT Certificate
  • Previous experience preferred
