What do our staff say? An interview with our relief officer Omar Sillah
Omar Sillah has worked for SGS Group since 2018 since they took over the manned security contract at H.M. Prison Holloway when Carillion went into administration. He has worked at several locations for SGS including Nationwide Building Society in Threadneedle St in the heart of the City of London and for Mainstay Facilities Management at Direct Line Insurance in Bromley. Omar has been a security officer for over 12 years and lives in Wembley West London. We caught up with him and his line manager Ed Stevens to learn about working for SGS
So, Omar how did you come to work for SGS?
When Carillion stopped, we were lucky SGS took over the contract at Holloway Prison and I moved over to them, that was in 2018. Ed added “I have worked with Omar for three years, on and off, and it was good to have him on board with us as he is an experienced relief officer.”
How do you find working with them day to day?
Brilliant, they are a good company. I get all I need, the training is clear and easy to understand I like the variety of working in different places, I like talking to people and helping them. Ed agreed saying that Omar has excellent customer service skills. “The customers all love him, and he is very good with the technology side of the job”. “I never got an award anywhere else I have worked, it was nice to be recognised” said Omar, referring to his recent SGS values award presented to him by MD Graeme Brown.
SGS use the My Sentinel app to manage interactions between the control centre, the officers on the ground and the clients. How does it work for you Omar?
I like it, it makes life very simple. I like to know what I’m doing, and it helps to organise my rota and shifts. It makes it easy to communicate with control and to enter incident reports. I can log in and out of my shift easily meaning I don’t have to phone in to the control centre all the time.
Finally, Omar I understand you are an Arsenal fan?
Yes, I have been disappointed by this season I thought we would win something. What makes it worse is my wife is a Chelsea fan. It got quite difficult at home.
Thank you for talking to us Omar. He is just one of the fine relief officers working with SGS and we were pleased when he chose to remain with us recently despite an offer to work directly for one of our customers.
