Main Purpose                  

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to join our high performing and ambitious group wide Business Development team, with specific responsibility for the security guarding division. You will be responsible for administrative support within sales and marketing process.

To be considered for this role you will need to have a proven track record in the services sector, be highly results driven with a creative, innovative approach and have a minimum 3-5 years’ sales experience preferably within the Security Industry.  An understanding of customer service, frontline operations and associated British Standards would be beneficial.

You will be confident in generating new leads and taking them through the full business development cycle to sale, developing mutually beneficial relationships with new customers. You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record of achievement and experience.

Sentinel Group Security is looking for a Business Development Manager with a competitive spirit, personal drive and track record of success in sales. Alongside this, you will be attending tender site visits, client meetings and submission interviews, preparing and delivering presentations and completed tender documents to prospective clients

You’ll be an integral part with the growth and retention of our business and delivering our security segment sales strategy and you’ll work collaboratively to assist with the review of bid submissions for quality, accuracy and potential improvement and work.

 

Specification

You should know what it takes to work within a busy sales environment, where you will be responsible for aspects such as:

  • Establish sales objectives by forecasting and projecting expected sales volume and profit for existing and new services.
  • Reporting and analytics – Prepare and interpret data to support pipeline development and reporting. Provide measurable and achievable KPI reports monthly that meet the sales targets, margins, milestones and forecasting expectations.
  • Managing the pipeline of opportunities and communication, from lead generation to close, building and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Develop and implement a sales strategy aligned to the company business plan.
  • Assisting with the development process from marketing intelligence through to client identification, pre-qualification, tendering, negotiation and contract implementation. Working with other areas of the business to develop marketing materials and marketing opportunities.
  • Undertake tender site visits, client meetings and submission interviews, preparing and delivering presentations, cost modelling and tender documents to prospective clients.
  • Be proficient at analysing data, building monthly reports and making recommendations based on data and trends. Monitoring SGS and competitors’ performance and provide feedback to the Directors on customer needs and market opportunities. Analysis of the pipeline and lead data, key business insights such as:
    • Demand Generation
    • Pipeline Forecast and Trends
    • Conversion Rates
    • Target Accounts
    • Market Segmentation
    • Win/Loss

As a Business Development Manager, you will be instrumental in driving sales and expanding market opportunities. You should be a self-starter with a proactive approach to managing relationships, identifying opportunities, and meeting targets within a dynamic sales environment.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Sales and Forecasting
    • Establish sales objectives by forecasting and projecting sales volume and profits for both existing and new services.
    • Prepare monthly KPI reports that meet sales targets, margins, milestones, and forecasting expectations.
  • Pipeline Management
    • Manage the sales pipeline from lead generation to closing deals, ensuring continuous communication and strong customer relationships.
    • Track and analyse the pipeline and lead data, delivering insights on demand generation, pipeline trends, conversion rates, target accounts, and market segmentation.
  • Sales Strategy and Business Development
    • Develop and implement a sales strategy aligned with the company’s business plan, aimed at securing new clients and expanding market reach.
    • Support the full development process from initial client identification, prequalification, tendering, negotiation, to contract implementation.
  • Client Engagement and Quoting
    • Attend tender site visits, client meetings, and submission interviews, developing cost models and creating tender documents.
    • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, demonstrating SGS’s value and capabilities.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Use data insights to generate monthly reports, making recommendations based on market and competitor performance.
    • Provide feedback to Directors on customer needs, market opportunities, and competitive landscape analysis.
  • Marketing and Brand Awareness
    • Collaborate on developing marketing materials and leveraging channels like LinkedIn to enhance brand awareness.
    • Support marketing initiatives by identifying target market segments, building brand presence, and tracking engagement.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with prospective customers and colleagues at all levels, fostering positive and productive relationships.

 

Key Competencies

  • Full driving licence
  • Evidence of excellence in producing high scoring written content for competitive tenders with strong focus on attention to detail, grammar, proven track record of successfully delivering multiple projects on time
  • Relevant professional experience in new business development or similar (scored, time-bound, competitive) environment
  • Graduate level or equivalent experience with a broadly relevant qualification or skill set e.g. Marketing, English Literature, Professional Writing, Facilities Management as examples
  • Experience of writing tender responses for Facilities Management Contracts
  • Proven capacity to effectively manage proposal development processes, as well as manage a range of internal stakeholders and senior management
  • Ability and willingness to challenge the status quo to improve the overall quality of written submissions
  • Open to challenge, review and collaborative improvement of own and others work
  • Demonstrated achievement in the production of tender documents and/or similar written content Strong organisational skills and ability to manage complex tenders, precise scheduling and multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office
  • Pro-active approach to compliance and a can-do attitude
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to deliver effective service in a demanding environment with the ability to work to tight deadlines without detriment to quality
